new things

the best part about being a witness to childhood is watching the evolution of the child's learning. something as simple as learning to use a spoon seems insignificant in so many ways, yet beautiful all the same. i imagine that's how god looks at us from heaven - smiling as we learn.

xander is also learning new things. most significantly the joy of nakedness. everyone told us it was coming eventually, but when he was a baby and would cry and scream if i took his onsie off, i could have never imagined the sheer joy of nudiness. (especially when there's pudding involved.)







ok, this isn't a new thing, but still a transition. matt is back to school. we had such a wonderful summer it's sad to see him go. yes, i know he's home everyday - and even for lunch most days. but still. his mind is elsewhere when school is in session. this overwhelming burden of professorial perfection overcomes him - like a wave - we can still see him under there, but there's this big thing between us and even if i tried to move it, it's just too big. good night, friends and family. pray that this school year is a good one - for all of us.
